Gov. Cadiao hopeful EBJ airport to be opened before 2017 ends

Antique Governor Rhodora J Cadiao is hopeful that the Evelio B. Javier Memorial Airport in San Jose de Buenavista will be opened before 2017 ends.

Cadiao, in media interview Wednesday, said that she discussed this development with Interior Undersecretary for Public Safety Jesus Hinlo during his surprise visit to Antique last week.

She said tourism is her number one thrust, and the opening of the airport is vital as she is asking Undersecretary Hinlo to help look for investors for “tourism factories” in the province.

"Antique is abundant with fish and if there would be canning factories that would be put up in here,” she said.

The airport that has stopped operation years ago would be important for these canning factories for it would make it easier for them to transport their canned products from Antique to their market in Luzon.

Last week, Cadiao said she was informed that the Philippine Airlines was going to have an aircraft that would take the Antique to Subic route before the end of the year.
