DOTr transfers to Clark end of July; more gov't offices to follow

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will transfer its office from Mandaluyong City to Clark, Pampanga by end of this month, while more government offices have expressed their plans to move out of Metro Manila to Clark.

“They will first hold office in an existing facility in Clark (Freeport) while we’re building the new government center,” Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and CEO Vivencio Dizon told reporters Tuesday.

Dizon added that DOTr will be occupying a former business process outsourcing office at the Clark Freeport.

He said the DOTR will also be the first tenant of the planned government center within the New Clark City, formerly known as Clark Green City.

“Once the new government center is done, DOTr will have the first office there,” he said.

The BCDA chief said the new government center in New Clark City will be similar to the model of Putrajaya, Malaysia’s new federal administrative capital.

“It’s similar to Putrajaya. But Putrajaya, they do it one go. They moved the entire government in one go. We’re not doing that. It’s going to be gradual,” Dizon said.

“It’s a very strong signal to the entire country that the government is serious in decongesting Metro Manila,” he added.

He also said the government will provide shuttles for its employees from Metro Manila to Clark and vice versa.

Dizon noted that as soon as the train system connecting Manila and Clark will be completed, this will be the main mode of transportation for the employees.

“We can expect that before the end of the term of the President (Rodrigo Duterte),” Dizon said.

The New Clark City is currently the largest development of BCDA.
