MMDA, Fil-Chinese fire volunteers help distribute free water in metropolis
MANILA, July 21 (PNA) -- The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and Fil-Chinese fire volunteers belonging to the Text Fire Brigade on Wednesday are making available 107 firetrucks to help Maynilad distribute free water to residents of depressed areas in the Quezon City, Caloocan and Makati, hit by severe shortage of water due to the receding water level at Angat Dam.
This as MMDA Chairman Oscar Inocentes suspended effective Wednesday the Number Coding Scheme for firetrucks and water tankers of volunteers involved in the distribution of water to residents in the metropolis.
MMDA General Manager Robert Nacianceno met with Maynilad administrator Herbert Consunji and Text Fire Federation head Gerry Chua at the MMDA where they laid out their plans to make available their manpower and equipment to distribute water to areas worst-hit by the water shortage problem.
MMDA firetrucks and water tankers are deployed to Barangay Paltok, Roosevelt Ave. Quezon City to distribute water to residents.
Of the 107 firetrucks and tankers, seven will come from the MMDA while 100 from the Text Fire volunteers
Water to be used in operations will be sourced out from fire hydrants all over Metro Manila.
At the same time, Nacianceno appealed to the public to conserve water, learn to use "tabo" while bathing and refrain from using high-pressure water hoses.
The MMDA and the Chinese fire volunteers are willing to help Maynilad in rationing water to residents for the duration of the water crisis. (PNA)
