Powerlifting: Ormocana powerlifter gets SP commendation
ORMOC CITY, July 16 (PNA) -- The City Council passed a resolution commending Ormocana weightlifter Anita Mangcao-Koykka for her latest feat at the Asian Powerlifting Championships last May 2 to 6 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Councilor Ruben Capahi, chairman of the committee on sports, sponsored the resolution.
Koykka of Luna, here in Ormoc, set a new World Record at 160.5 kgs. for squat event and bagged four gold medals in different lifting categories in said competition.
As a result, she was adjudged as the Total Asian Champion and Best Masters 2 Female Lifter.
The 50-year-old Koykka has continually brought home honors from the sport. She was named Champion in the Philippine Masters Championships in Imus, Cavite last Jan. 30 to 31. She bagged a silver medal at the World Championships of Masters Powerlifting in Otrava, Czech Republic in September last year.
In 2008, Koykka was Champion of the Philippine Olympic Festival National Championship where she set a new Southern Philippine record and Asian Record.
The city government honored her at the 62nd Charter Day celebration in October last year for bringing home prestige and honor to Ormoc. (PNA)
