'Disturbed' Davao cop shot by colleagues

A police officer was killed in a shootout with fellow law enforcers on Monday night in front of Ponte Trade Master along Carlos P. Garcia Highway in Buhangin District, this city.

The fatality was identified as SPO1 Roger Padayogdog, who was assigned to the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RFMB) 11 at Camp Catitipan.

Prior to the shootout, Padayogdog had reportedly caused commotion near the establishment over a traffic incident. He mauled a tricycle driver identified as Ronald Bala, prompting people in the area to call the police for assistance.

When the RMFB personnel arrived at the place, Padayogdog fired at them, forcing the responding team to retaliate and shot the police officer.

RFMB personnel later discovered that the person was their own colleague, who was in civilian clothes.

In an interview Tuesday, Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 head Chief Supt. Manuel Gaerlan said Padayogdog "appeared to be disturbed during the incident".

"We surmised that he has a problem, psychologically or emotionally, recently," he said.

Gaerlan said the police reviewed the latest social media posts of Padayogdog and found these to be disturbing as he talked about "satanism."

Gaerlan said that some of his colleagues in the unit also noticed some outlandish changes. However, Gaerlan clarified that Padayogodog has no records from the Regional Health Services (RHS) of PRO 11 that he has been observed with psychological problems.
