N. Korean, Chinese leaders meet in Beijing

North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un has met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Wednesday.

North Korea’s leader stayed in China from March 25 to 28, CCTV reported. According to Xi Jinping, Kim Jong-un’s visit shows the great importance that the North Korean leader attaches to the development of relations with China.

"The basics of the traditional friendship between China and North Korea were founded and nurtured by the elder generations of leaders of both countries. This is our invaluable heritage," Xi Jinping said.

The Chinese president stressed that the Communist Party of China and the Workers' Party of Korea had made a great contribution to the development of socialism.

North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un is ready to conduct a dialogue with the United States and hold a high-level meeting with US President Donald Trump, he said, Xinhua News Agency reported on Wednesday.

"The issue of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula can be resolved, if South Korea and the United States respond to our efforts with goodwill, create an atmosphere of peace and stability while taking progressive and synchronous measures for the realization of peace," the news agency quoted Kim Jong-un as saying.

"It is our consistent stand to be committed to denuclearization on the peninsula, in accordance with the will of late President Kim Il Sung and late General Secretary Kim Jong Il," Kim Jong-un said.

For his part, Xi Jinping said Pyongyang made a great contribution for positive changes on the Korean Peninsula and that China approves of such actions and would strive for denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula for peace and stability in the region.
