Iloilo police nabs 46 'bookies’ bet collectors in 15 days

A total of 46 "bookies" bet collector were arrested in Iloilo province in 15 days since the start of the campaign, according to the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) on Tuesday.

To recall, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald Dela Rosa imposed an ultimatum to police regional directors to eliminate illegal gambling in their areas within 15 days. It started July 24 and ended on Monday.

IPPO Director Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, in an interview on Tuesday, said that cases have been filed in the court against the arrested collectors, most of whom were from the fifth district of the province.

Tayaba said that all police chiefs in the province took actions to meet the deadline and generated accomplishments.

The documents that were submitted to the IPPO on Monday will still be evaluated, especially the six chiefs of police with low accomplishments, said Tayaba.

Despite the end of the 15-day ultimatum, Tayaba assured that their relentless campaign on illegal gambling will continue.

He called on the public to work together with the police in curbing illegal gambling in the province.

He also lauded Dela Rosa for his directive as they were able to achieve a good number of arrest in the province within the period of 15 days.
