Iloilo gov't to appeal denial of P30M PRAISE bonus

The provincial government is preparing its documents to appeal to the Commission on Audit (COA) in Western Visayas the disallowance of their about PHP30 million PRAISE bonus or Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence released to the Capitol employees last 2015.

Iloilo provincial legal officer, Lawyer Dennis Ventilacion on Thursday said that the provincial government received notice of disallowance from COA last week but now preparing their appeal.

In a press conference on Thursday, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. said they might appeal straight to the Supreme Court if COA would deny their appeal.

The about 2,000 Capitol employees received PHP15,000 PRAISE as extra bonus last 2015.

But Ventilacion clarified that PRAISE bonus were given to the employees after the provincial government earned various awards especially the Seal of Good Local Governance from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

While the notice was already received by the provincial government, Ventilacion said that they were given six months to appeal to COA.

"We are giving ourselves 45 days to appeal to the regional office so we could have about four months and a half to appeal to the central office in case our appeal will be denied in the regional office," he said.

In a press conference on Thursday, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. also said that they might appeal straight to the Supreme Court if COA will deny their appeal.
